For decades we\u2019ve been an endangered species.\u00a0 Hot nerd girls and geekettes secretly reading HG Wells and Ray Bradbury.\u00a0 Sneaking copies of Watchmen into our Barnes and Nobles bags.\u00a0 Watching reruns of Star Trek recorded onto old VHS tapes labeled \u201cAs the World Turns.\u201d<\/p>\n

I remember getting critical looks in the comic book store and being told by people at Star Trek Conventions that \u201cpeople who look like you don\u2019t come here.\u201d<\/p>\n
Well, obviously we do asshole.<\/strong><\/p>\n In the last few years this has finally started to turn around.\u00a0 The popularity of ComicCon, Harry Potter, and, yes, Twilight (mock if you must) have helped nerd girls come out of their shells.<\/p>\n I was never really into shells.<\/p>\n I\u2019ve been out my whole life.\u00a0 Unafraid to wear my Starfleet uniform to school (ASB even requested I wear it once in High School).\u00a0 Able to spout nerd rhetoric at a seconds notice.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t remember how to do trigonometry but I could tell you what episode of TNG it was just from hearing a single line of dialogue.\u00a0 I was never mocked or teased.\u00a0 Most people thought it was pretty cool actually.<\/p>\n The Age of the Nerd Girl has begun.\u00a0 We happily wait in line to see the first preview of The Avengers<\/em>.\u00a0 We spend $60 buying Red Dead Redemption<\/em> the day it comes out.\u00a0 We flock to conventions in droves wearing cute little outfits and allowing slobbering geek boys to take pictures of us.<\/p>\n I\u2019ll tell you a secret; We love nerd boys just as much as you love us<\/em>.<\/p>\n So ask a nerd girl out.\u00a0 Don\u2019t assume that they\u2019re taken. \u00a0They\u2019ll let you down gently if they are and then talk Star Wars with you.\u00a0 We have hearts of gold and brains to back them up.<\/p>\n And, yes, my boobs are real.<\/p>\n
