I got\u00a0the heads up about the AMP Music Festival from it’s Producer Andy Lowe<\/a> (who directed Dr. Horrible\u2019s Sing-Along Blog Live!<\/em> in San Diego a couple of months ago).\u00a0 He drew me in with videos of George Takei…an excellent method of nerdy seduction.\u00a0 When he mentioned press passes I was officially sold.<\/p>\n

On the surface it doesn\u2019t seem like there\u2019s anything nerdy about a music festival\u2026unless you\u2019re a music nerd\u2026which I\u2019m not really.\u00a0 BUT, this festival had a few nerdy things going for it and I like Andy so I\u2019m going with it.<\/p>\n

Nerdy thing #1<\/strong><\/p>\n

George Takei starred in the promo (also directed by Andy Lowe).\u00a0 I posted it on the facebook page last week and if you didn\u2019t watch it, you should, because it\u2019s uber funny.\u00a0 Alas, I didn’t see George there.\u00a0 If I had you would have heard the nerdgasm half way around the world, I can guarantee it.<\/p>\n

Nerdy thing #2<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jane Lui (who played Penny in Dr. Horrible Live!<\/em>) performed.\u00a0 She\u2019s a doll and talented as all get out.\u00a0 Don\u2019t believe me?\u00a0 Watch this\u2026<\/p>\n

Others that stood out for me?\u00a0 Terry Matsuoka<\/a>, Sam Kang<\/a>, Lindsey Yung<\/a>, and Michael Carreon<\/a>.\u00a0 Check ’em out.\u00a0 It’ll be worth your time, I promise you.<\/p>\n

Nerdy thing #3<\/strong><\/p>\n

There was a band called Science Fiction.\u00a0 No joke.\u00a0 They played jazz.\u00a0 Science fiction jazz.\u00a0 It was kind of like hanging out\u00a0at Mos Eisley’s.\u00a0 But outside…\u00a0 Anyhooters…their version of MJ\u2019s Thriller was epic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

*side note: my high school friends will appreciate the fact that when this song started my first thought was \u201cthey\u2019re playing Didomite<\/em>?!?\u201d\u00a0 Uff da.<\/p>\n

Nerdy thing #4<\/strong><\/p>\n

They had cosplay girls there.\u00a0 Y\u2019all know I love my costumes and hot girls in costume are just a win-win.<\/p>\n

Nerdy thing #5<\/strong><\/p>\n

AAA aka Asian American Awesomeness.\u00a0 Pretty much every performer I saw was an amateur comedian and they were hysterical.\u00a0 The songs about being book smart and taking off your shoes before going into your house had me in stitches.\u00a0 And they gave scholarships away to kids that seriously deserve it.\u00a0 It gave me warm fuzzies.<\/p>\n

Oh, and they had prizes.\u00a0 Beer visors for all!<\/p>\n
