This is the right poster... right?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Actually, it stands for Retired, Extremely Dangerous and if this movie proves anything, it\u2019s that they don\u2019t make them like they used to.\u00a0 I say this for two reasons.\u00a0 There is the obvious one: the movie revolves around older and much more experienced agents battling it out against younger, less experienced agents.\u00a0 And the less obvious one: they don\u2019t make actors and action stars like they used to.<\/p>\n<p>My friend Wayne and I stayed out late on a school night to see RED (he\u2019s a teacher so I\u2019m not kidding when I say that).\u00a0 Partly because it\u2019s based on a DC graphic novel of the same name, and partly because we hadn\u2019t hung out since High School and it was an excellent reason to get together.\u00a0 Plus, if he had backed out he probably knows that I wouldn\u2019t have taken \u201cno\u201d for an answer \ud83d\ude09\u00a0 So thanks for seeing it with me Wayne!<\/p>\n<p>On to movie reviewing\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Good Guys<\/strong>: <em>(I type this with a smirk on my face since all anyone in the movie does is kill people)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Bruce Willis is in fine form in his patented role as a professional badass playing cat and mouse with the people who done him wrong.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure it\u2019s a character type that was invented for him.<\/p>\n<p>Morgan Freeman has cancer again (ie The Bucket List) and is excited to get in one last hurrah.\u00a0 I\u2019m pretty sure it\u2019s illegal to NOT like Morgan Freeman.\u00a0 He\u2019s freakin\u2019 awesome.\u00a0 This might just be my favorite role that John Malkovich has ever played.\u00a0 If he hadn\u2019t been surrounded by a bevy of equally talented performers he probably would have stolen the show\u2026inside of a pink pig stuffed animal.<\/p>\n<p>I love Brian Cox.\u00a0 He was in X-Men.\u00a0 That is reason enough.\u00a0 In this movie he plays a ruskie convincingly.\u00a0 I prefer him with his beard and he does not disappoint here.\u00a0 The casting directors displayed a flash of brilliance when they brought in Mary-Louise Parker to play Bruce\u2019s love interest.\u00a0 I am absolutely convinced that no one else could have played this role.\u00a0 She holds her own against the masters and displays some of the best comedic timing in the movie.\u00a0 See kids?\u00a0 Weed is a good thing.\u00a0 Just kidding.\u00a0 Don\u2019t tell your parents I said that.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_212\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-212\" style=\"width: 158px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-212\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Even I think this is hot. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The piece de resistance (and a HUGE reason why I went to see this movie) is Helen Mirren.\u00a0 I think people forget that she\u2019s played many a badass lady and focus on the fact that she\u2019s older and British and must therefore be prim and proper.\u00a0 Bullshit.\u00a0 Granted, she arranges flowers and makes tea and crumpets, but the site of seeing her fire a semi-automatic while wearing a white ball gown will forever endear her to me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Bad Guys<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Karl Urban has done an excellent job of ingraining himself in the nerd lexicon.\u00a0 From Lord of the Rings to Pathfinder to Star Trek, he seems to choose his projects based on how many conventions he can rely on as an older, washed up actor.\u00a0 Smart man.\u00a0 He\u2019s the only \u201cbad guy\u201d you really care about.\u00a0 He starts off a cold and calculated drone of the system but his wits kick in and it becomes clear that he really just wants to do what\u2019s right (side note: in my humble opinion, KU would have made an excellent Thor.
