{"id":2388,"date":"2011-12-12T09:26:33","date_gmt":"2011-12-12T17:26:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hotnerdgirl.wordpress.com\/?p=2388"},"modified":"2024-02-27T10:47:10","modified_gmt":"2024-02-27T10:47:10","slug":"cooking-with-hot-nerd-girl-butterbeer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hotnerdgirl.com\/index.php\/2011\/12\/12\/cooking-with-hot-nerd-girl-butterbeer\/","title":{"rendered":"Cooking with Hot Nerd Girl: Butterbeer"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2406\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2406\" style=\"width: 480px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2406\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Just remember, you&#039;ve been warned!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I don\u2019t cook.<\/p>\n<p>Let me repeat.<\/p>\n<p>I. do. not. cook.<\/p>\n<p>I decided a while back that I should at least TRY to learn.\u00a0 And if I was going to risk setting my kitchen on fire then I wanted to do it while making food that sounded appealing to me and what\u2019s more appealing than food inspired by Star Trek?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mmmmmm\u2026.Gagh\u2026..<\/p>\n<p>So I got out my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gamestop.com\/collectibles\">Star Trek cookbook<\/a> and thumbed through all of the recipes until I found some I thought I could pull off.\u00a0 I told a friend what I was doing and he suggested I film my attempts for posterity.<\/p>\n<p>Uff da.<\/p>\n<p>THEN I\u00a0saw International House of Geek\u2019s Thanksgiving post and the recipe for Lembas bread and decided to try recipes from several different franchises.\u00a0 Really, I just wanted to try the Lembas bread. I explored <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekychef.com\/\">The Geeky Chef<\/a> and between the Star Trek cookbook, IHOG and Geeky Chef, I found 5 recipes to try. One entree, one bread, and three beverages.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I showed the rough edit of the first video to a family member and her first reaction was: \u201cIt\u2019s obvious you don\u2019t know what you\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s true.\u00a0 I don\u2019t.<\/p>\n<p>So feel free to laugh at my cluelessness in the kitchen.<\/p>\n<p>Up first, my new favorite Holiday beverage: <a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Butterbeer\">Butterbeer!<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>(From <em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Harry_Potter\">Harry Potter<\/a><\/em>, in case you didn&#8217;t know)<\/p>\n<p>[youtube:http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JYfAKaYWM94]<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>And here\u2019s how to make it:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1\/4 cup unsweetened condensed milk<\/p>\n<p>1\/4 cup butterscotch topping<\/p>\n<p>2 tablespoons whipped butter, room temperature<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 cups vanilla cream soda<\/p>\n<p><strong>Directions<\/strong><br \/>\nCombine condensed milk, butterscotch topping, and butter in a glass heatproof measuring cup. Heat in microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir until butter has melted and incorporated into mixture. Meanwhile heat cream soda in another heatproof measuring cup for 1 minute 30 seconds. Divide butterscotch mixture between 2 (10 to 12-ounce) mugs. Fill mugs with heated cream soda and stir thoroughly.
