{"id":2644,"date":"2012-01-30T13:22:52","date_gmt":"2012-01-30T21:22:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hotnerdgirl.wordpress.com\/?p=2644"},"modified":"2024-02-28T09:30:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-28T09:30:38","slug":"the-star-wars-experience","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hotnerdgirl.com\/index.php\/2012\/01\/30\/the-star-wars-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"The Star Wars Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My Dad came to SoCal to visit my brother and I and being the family o&#8217; nerd that we are, we decided to go to the Discovery Science Center&#8217;s Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination exhibit in Santa Ana.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve always wanted to visit the giant black cube that looks suspiciously Borg-like so this was the perfect opportunity.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2647\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2647\" style=\"width: 409px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I honestly don&#039;t know which of us is more excited....probably me.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The museum itself is\u00a0mostly a kid science wonderland so if you don&#8217;t like small children running full speed into your legs all day (that&#8217;s gonna leave a bruise) then I would suggest going on a weekday.\u00a0 The <em>Star Wars<\/em> exhibit was a lot like <em>Star Trek: The Experience<\/em> (or <em>Star Trek: The Tour<\/em>&#8230;.or <em>Star Trek: The Exhibition<\/em>&#8230;.) in that it was costumes, props and models used in the movies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One cool thing about having it at a science center was the interactive games they brought in, like this Moisture Farm that my sister-in-law (whose name is Troi btw&#8230;no really, it is and it&#8217;s pretty awesome) and I\u00a0couldn&#8217;t figure out&#8230;probably because we&#8217;re over the age of 10.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2653\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2653\" style=\"width: 584px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2653\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Quick! Get a small child over here to figure this thing out!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>My\u00a03-year-old nephew\u00a0is finally getting to the age where he can really appreciate science fiction and if I have anything to say about it he will be savant-like in his knowledge of all things nerdy. This is how my sister-in-law woke him up this morning:<\/p>\n<p>[youtube:http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=xLSGOWJG1TQ]<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>The costumes kind of freaked him out (and cost me what would have been an\u00a0awesome picture of him standing next to a Jawa) but he LOVED anything mechanical.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2660\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2660\" style=\"width: 584px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2660\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">I can haz AT-AT?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Apparantly it runs in the family.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2645\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2645\" style=\"width: 584px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Three generations of machine buffs<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here are some close ups of the Millenium Falcon.\u00a0 The detail was unbelievable.\u00a0 Thanks to the lighting I had to take all of these pictures with my phone.\u00a0 They turned out way better than the pics I took with my point and click camera.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a few pictures of me with my patented double thumbs up pose.<\/p>\n<p>Stormtrooper? Double thumbs up!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">\n<p>Han and Chewie?\u00a0 Definitely double thumbs up!<\/p>\n<p>Darth Vader?\u00a0 Worthy of two chicks doing a double thumbs up!<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Darth Vader&#8230;they had his helmet displayed in three pieces allowing us to see the complex breathing apparatus that serves as the main portion of his life support system.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some costumes from the prequels.
