WonderCon 2012

The WonderCrew: Troi, Geek Outlaw, HNG, Mama Jedi

The first time I went to WonderCon was way back in 2002 while I was in college in San Francisco. ย I was the only girl in the group and was rocking my Batman Underoos and a very ill-fitting SFSU sweatshirt.

A Spider-Man sticker on top of a Batman logo…I’m trying to remember if we had some sort of Marvel vs. DC thing going on that day….

Since moving to Southern California I wasn’t sure I’d ever go to a WonderCon again but fate had other plans (namely construction) and planted WonderCon in Anaheim this year. ย I had to go. ย Now, normally I like to spend at least two days at a comic book convention; however, WonderCon inconveniently fell on St. Patrick’s Day weekend and the Irish blood in me refused to give up the St. Patty’s Day festivities. ย Therefore, I settled for going to WonderCon on Friday only.

This was the first Comic Book Convention for my Mom, my sister-in-law Troi and my friend Hayden (aka Geek Outlaw). ย We’re all going to San Diego Comic Con this Summer so it was good practice for them. ย My Mom wore the HNG t-shirt I had made for Long Beach Comic Con and guys were flirting with her all day. ย What can I say? ย I have a hot mama. ย Hayden wore his Geek Outlaw outfit which was so weighed down by his geekyย accoutrements that he literally had to mosey.

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1J67TEVdIN0]

First things first. ย Star Trek. ย Star Trek actors are the only celebrities I get star struck by. ย I’m not sure why that is other than the fact that I heart Star Trek sosososososososo much. ย Seriously, Harrison Ford could walk up to me and I’d be like “yo, what’s up dude?” but if Patrick Stewart did that I would freak the fuck out. ย So it should come as no surprise that when I saw Anthony Montgomery (aka Ensign Travis Mayweather) I freaked the fuck out.

See that look on my face? That’s pure joy right there.

I was in the process of purchasing a comic book and getting my face sketched on the back of it (more on that later) when Hayden and I realized that Anthony was in the booth right next door. ย I couldn’t move yet because of the sketching so Hayden went over and warned Anthony that a Super Trekkie was in his midst. ย I tend to be a very shy person but as soon as I got the go ahead from the sketch artist that I could move I practically mauled the poor man.

I swear I don’t normally do this type of thing!

He now holds the distinction of being the only Star Trek actor that I’ve hugged. ย Twice. ย Seriously though, super super super nice guy. ย I even told him my Connor Trinneer story and he got a laugh out of that (short version: I had just arrived at Whole Foods in Hollywood and saw a guy holding a baby and trying to get a grocery cart. ย I got the grocery cart for him and when he turned around and thanked me I realized it was Connor Trinneer and I almost had a heart attack right on the spot).

Anthony was there promoting his new graphic novel Miles Away. ย Y’all should check it out because it looks really good and because I heart him. ย A lot.

Back to the comic book I was purchasing before I saw Anthony….

Artist: J caught my eye because she’s a fellow HNG who wrote a comic book. Seriously, she’s badass. ย She combines the comic with music to create a whole experience for the reader. ย I love and support my fellow HNG’s and you should too. ย So check her out.

And she makes a darn sexy Wonder Woman too

One of her artists, Will Olmo, did a quick sketch of me on the back of the book.

While looking for an artist I saw at LBCC (alas, I never found him and I can’t remember his name) I ran into two other artists that I will be paying close attention to from now on. ย The first one is Mike McKoneย who happens to live just a few miles away from me. ย I’m going to try and hit him up for an interview. ย The second is Gerimi Burleighย creator of Eye of the Gods and Morningstar.ย  We first noticed Gerimi because Hayden is a fan of the country western genre and Morningstar has a cowboy twist to it. ย After talking to him, you can’t help but like him. ย Super talented and super nice. ย Plus, he has an awesome name.

Geek Outlaw and Gerimi Burleigh

DC is fighting hunger in Africa with their We Can Be Heroes campaign. ย To bring attention to the cause they had a photobooth set up wherein you could get your picture taken with shadowy images of the Justice League.

They printed a picture for you (or in Hayden’s case, a crapload of pictures…the printer went nuts over his sexy photo and wouldn’t stop printing them). The photos will be accessible online and on the DC facebook page at some point.

My scanner doesn’t like this picture for some reason so I’ll replace it when they get the digital versions up

We went to an Amazing Spider-Man panel where I saw and got super excited about this:

It’s Punisher! In space!

But the best panel was Nerdist Industries Live! I really hope that no one reading this is too young to remember MTV’s Singled Out. ย It was back when MTV still played music videos and there were only a handful of reality shows, namely Real World, Singled Out and Love Line (though LL may have come later…I can’t remember, I haven’t watched MTV in years). Anyhooters, people mostly rememberย Singled Outย because it introduced the world to Jenny McCarthy. ย I remember it because it introduced me to Chris Hardwick. ย My love for him has only increased over the years what with The Nerdist, Talking Dead, and various hilarious commentaries on E! pop culture shows.

He introduced several people who will be participating in the new Nerdist youtube channel.

Those of us in Ballroom 3 had to pay dearly to see this panel. ย Warner Brothers decided that right beforehand they would force everyone waiting for The Nerdist to watch an episode of The Secret Circle. ย It was worse than Chinese water torture. ย And this is coming from someone who enjoys Twilight (I know, I know). It did give Chris the opportunity to tell jokes about sexy witch scissor sex (that’s how you complete the circle, right?) which almost made it worth it. ย Almost.

Other Chris Hardwick gems:

Nerds make the shiny things that distract the mouth breathers.

A nerd’s true superpower is to try to understand something and try to live it more than any other living creature.

At the end of the panelย Chris had two Angry Bird stuffed animals. ย The first he threw right to a kid in the front row who made them all feel horribly guilty for cussing. ย The second he decided to throw as far as he could. ย The guy next to me was crazy still during the whole panel but he wanted that GD Angry Bird. ย I’ve never seen a man that size move so fast. ย It was pretty epic. ย And the guy was STOKED. ย Of course I captured it on video.

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3GAz77TDqs]

On to cosplay photos!

We got to take pictures in front of an Avengers poster while holding Cap’s shield.

Somehow I ended up being the buttkicker in both photos

And then with Captain America himself.

There was Batman.

And Rogue.

Hulk…at least the top half of him…

And Spidey (who was insanely flexible).

And then there was whatever the frak this guy is.

That’s a nice leg and dangly-thing you got there Mister

To represent the gamers we had some Halo.

And some Halo Barbies.

Scorpion had some crazy white contacts lenses that gave me a really great mental picture of what Roose Bolton’s eyes must look like.

Abraham Lincoln was in attendance just in case any vampires showed up.

Battlestar Galactica was represented.

This is the best Doctor #10 I’ve ever seen at a Con. ย He was spot on.

These fellow HNG’s made their Tardis dresses themselves. ย As a very non-domestic lady I was extremely impressed.

It takes this artist 8 hours to put this Firefly display together every time he goes to a convention.

Represent.

My favorite shirt of day.

I heart Transformers. ย Haha, j/k, it’s a Gundam.

And, of course, there was plenty of the Force.

Last but not least, Hayden’s favorite, the Ghostbusters.

That was a really hard pose to hold.

….and all the times Troi and I decided to photobomb Hayden’s pictures… ๐Ÿ™‚

Ourย souvenirs, including an R2D2 for my nephew.

WonderCon turned out to be a good time had by all. ย The newbies areย sufficientlyย stoked for SD Comic Con and I got an 8-bit Starfleet communicator. What more could a girl ask for?

Good times. The best part was that WonderCon had plenty of people to make it fun but not so many people that you had to stand in long lines. What few lines there were moved quickly. You could find a seat for panels, that I saw. The artists & authors were so friendly; in fact, everyone was so nice. The Secret Circle was the only tortuous part but it was getting pretty hilarious towards the end when people started making comments. There was quite the round of applause when the episode finally ended…. Cheers to those who wore awesome costumes. Cheers to all the staff and volunteers who made it an awesome experience.

    1. Yeah, the crowd was the perfect size. SDCC is going to be nuts! We’ll need to tie leashes to each other so we don’t get lost lol

  3. Wow, you actually managed to meet someone from Star Trek! ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. I know, right?!? I was so stoked! There’s a Sci-Fi Con coming up in LA in May, I think I’m going to head up and check it out.

  4. Reblogged this on Cold Slither Podcast and commented:
Amazing post by Hot Nerd Girl. Go check out her blog!

    1. Awesome! I’ll check out your podcast ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. How much FUN!

And in case this makes you feel any better, I don’t even consider myself remotely close to a Trekkie…yet if I saw Patrick Stewart, I’d probably pee my pants. Just a little.

    ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. LOL, totally ๐Ÿ˜‰

  6. Wow, this looks so damn fun! I’m such a nerd, I didn’t even know this event existed! Wonderful post–and congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
    Hugs,
    Kathy

    1. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. I thought three hours at WonderCon was enough until I read this post!

    This bit made me chuckle:
Warner Brothers decided that right beforehand they would force everyone waiting for The Nerdist to watch an episode of The Secret Circle.
A girlfriend who also attended the panel was overwhelmed by the horror of the TSC preview . . . which made me feel all the guiltier for occasionally playing this in the background, to make my life seen much more sane and reasonable by comparison. 0:)

    1. Hahahaha, I was wondering afterwards if it was really as bad as I thought it was. I mean, I’ve been known to watch Vampire Diaries and I swear it’s not as horrible as Secret Circle! Maybe it was just a bad episode?? Either way it was totally the wrong place to play it…I just hope that no one involved with the show was there!

  8. This totally rocks!

  9. Those are some very cool pictures you have there! You are very lucky! As a comic book collector and superhero fan, I’ve always wanted to go to one of those conventions. Awesome site! Very happy I stumbled upon it! And Chris Hardwick of Talking Dead!

    1. Thanks! I LOVE conventions! You should hit one up sometime ๐Ÿ™‚ Chris Hardwick is hilarious. I’m hoping he goes to San Diego Comic Con as well.

  10. Heheee looks fun! I too am impressed by the Tardis dresses! That is devotion!

    1. Oh man, they were gorgeous! Even better looking in real life. Their hats/fascinators were very clever as well.

  11. That “nerd harder” shirt is pure awesome. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ I got a lot of compliments on it. I’m debating whether or not to make some more.

  12. I think the “Secret Circle” episode was completely worth the sit through. The section I was sitting in took every opportunity to MST3K it, and the panels jokes were priceless. I was practically crying in my seat at the scissor sex comment.

    1. Hahahaha, that scissor comment was so funny I was still giggling on the drive home to San Diego. The whole panel was a riot, I don’t think I’ve ever laughed that much at a CC panel.

  13. Great photos… they nourished my inner-nerd.

    1. Glad to hear it ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. We are going to our first Anime Convention this year. I am kinda nervous. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Don’t be nervous, you’ll have a blast! Are you going to cosplay?

      1. I haven’t decided yet!

  15. Awesome! Nerd girls are the best.

  16. I’m Loving The Fact That DC Comics Is Involved In A Hero’s Campaign. It’s Good To Get People Involved In Charity Work While Letting Us Know That We Can All Be Hero’s. That Lady Sure Made that Rogue Outfit Look Good But As Far As Space Punisher…I Think That’s A Lame Concept (Sorry) I Guess They Got Nothing Better To Do With him Considering He Became The Man Responsible For Killing Everyone On Earth. -,O

    http://wp.me/2aAA8

    1. It is a very noble cause ๐Ÿ™‚ And no way! Punisher in space is awesome!! Although, I’m obsessed with anything space-related so I’m probably a little biased ๐Ÿ˜‰ They teased an upcoming Spider-MEN comic as well that looked like it could be really good.

      1. Well, i don’t mind spidey, hes iconic although i never really liked how they used all that different dimensions crap in the story lines. I always felt spider man was to much reality based to hold up to fantasy based story’s like that. but hey that’s just me ๐Ÿ™‚ I don love ya blog though ๐Ÿ˜‰

      2. Well, i don’t mind spidey, hes iconic although i never really liked how they used all that different dimensions crap in the story lines. I always felt spider man was to much reality based to hold up to fantasy based story’s like that. but hey that’s just me ๐Ÿ™‚ I do love ya blog though ๐Ÿ˜‰

  17. Awesome pics! I’m from the UK and will be attending the London film and comic con for the first time this year! really looking forward to it.

    1. Awesome! Have fun! One of these days I’d love to jump the pond and check out the UK.

  18. Hope you don’t mind, I passed the link around on G+, since many of my Plusketeers there are of a nerd persuasion. How overwhelming is a comic convention for someone only tangentially in that world? I love sci-fi and get a kick out of the pictures that fly around after cons, but I’m not even divided over whether Marvel is better than DC…. We’re planning to start out small, with Vancouver Comic Convention soon, and maybe move up to Seattle when we’ve got our stripes. Whether I’ll ever get that Mando armour together with the guts to wear it in public…..

    1. Not at all, thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚ I think you’re smart to start out small. If my first con had been SDCC I would have been overwhelmed. WonderCon is a great first Con bc it’s not too big but not too small. Long Beach Comic Con is even smaller, you can go through it in a few hours depending on how many panels you sit in on. I hear Emerald City CC is amazing (I’m assuming that’s what you mean by Seattle?) The biggest in the Pacific Northwest for sure. Cosplaying is super fun but just beware that you will spend a lot of time posing for pictures. For SDCC I’m going to cosplay one day and wear civvies the rest of the time so that I can move around freely. Have fun!!

      1. Yup. I was all lined up to go this year, but my wife discovered Vancouver has a con and that would be MUCH cheaper and more convenient. I pointed out that, as far as I know, Katee Sackhoff isn’t going to Vancouver, and therefore would be unable to fall in love with me. This argument did not seem to cut any ice. Huh.

  19. I saw your post on Freshly Pressed (congrats) and clicked on it because I love the idea of a comic book convention (though I’ve never attended a serious one). I noticed the blog is hotnerdgirl but because the internet has conditioned me to believe that all nerd/netizens are dudes, I didn’t expect the author to be what the name described. I was seriously taken aback by the fact that you are, in fact, a hot nerd girl. Honestly, I’m not sure what I was expecting.

    1. I’m glad that you weren’t disappointed ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. This is excellent WonderCon coverage. I’m super impressed by how much you managed to fit into this blog post, but it made me feel like I experienced WonderCon vicariously through it. I’m a gamer/comic nerd myself, and unfortunately, I’m kind of in that position where one Con a year is all I can get. I’m trying to head to PAX Prime this year, but I just wanted to say this was an amazingly informative article. I loved the links to the comics and the DC We Can Be Heroes coverage. I’d love to cover that campaign as well perhaps in future posts, so thanks for providing the awareness.

I’m always about how nerd culture: gaming, comics, movies, etc. can help our world in some way shape or form. Thanks so much and keep up the wonderful posts!

    1. Awesome! Glad you liked it ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve gone years without going to a Con so I totally understand. One a year is pretty good actually!

  21. This is a fun read. Thanks for sharing and your really hot!

    1. Thank ya kindly ๐Ÿ™‚

  22. You rocked Wondercon?
You suck – but in a hot nerdly way, of course!
I’d love to have those experiences, Nerd Girl; glad to see you’ve made the most of it!

    1. LOL! It’s always a good time ๐Ÿ™‚

  23. After sufficiantly drooling over the awesomeness of each picture, I realized that I NEED that shirt, “Nerd Harder.” NEED!!!

    1. LOL, glad you liked it. I made just the two, for me and my SIL, but I’m thinking about making some more.

      1. Please do!! I would BUY that.

  24. Are you single

    1. That would be a negative, but there are tons of HNG’s out there who are ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Yes, i’ve dated a few. One worked at Geek Squad and modeled for a t-shirt company.

  25. I love that Firefly display! I must have it. And some of the cosplayers were pretty awesome. Very cool post.

    1. Isn’t it?? I totally want one too. I ended up settling for a 11×17 sketch lol. I can’t wait to see the cosplayers at San Diego Comic Con!

  26. Now this is a unique post! Thanks for creating more than a few grins.

    1. My pleasure ๐Ÿ™‚

  27. “That guy” in the red and white outfit is dressed up as a Power Ranger.
    I enjoyed your post!

    1. But what *is* the dangly thing. I don’t remember weird square codpieces on the Power Rangers. Was I just too young to notice?

      1. The base is a MMPR costume but then he totally bastardized it! In very strange and creepy ways…and he was really really flexible and kept doing very bizarre poses. It was really confusing and disturbing, I might be scarred for life LOL

      2. Yeah, the codpiece is super weird. And awkward.

I had heard about this but was unable to attend so thank you for the great review. I love, love, love Star Trek and although, I don’t know too much about other science fiction – Star Trek and all its renditions I know Star Trek! I would faint if I met Patrick Stewart. Your day sounds great ! Congratulations on being on Freshed Press, too.

    1. Thanks! If you like Sci-Fi and are anywhere near Los Angeles, there’s a Sci-Fi in the Valley Con in May. I think I’m going to head up there for it. They are using the Enterprise NCC-1701-D in all the ads so I’m hoping it involves lots of Star Trek!

  29. MUST HAVE FIREFLY DISPLAY… SO GORGEOUS!!!

Bad choice to play that episode of Secret Circle. When I first heard of this show I thought it was a new talkie same as all the others with 4 women sitting around bitchin’. Turns out not so much, I did see one ep though (well part of one) I love visually awesome stuff when it comes to nature and they were doing something hocus pocus-y and all these dew drops started floating in the air. Visually beautiful, about 5mins after that I realised that was the only pretty thing and swapped channels ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Oh man, it was just brutal! Although that dew drop scene does sound really pretty….

  30. Beautiful post with fantastic photos. Excellent work. Thank you. Compliments, and greetings from Italy!

    1. Glad you liked it! Greetings from America!

  31. OH MY GOSH! That 10th Doctor guy is awesome! And you saw Artoo!!! I’ve never been to a Convention of some sort…but I’m really wanting to go now!

    1. You should! They are sooooooo much fun!

  32. This sounds like an awesome time! Great post – it looks likee you covered it very well too! Would’ve loved to have gone! Thanks for sharing & congrats on FP, this post definitely diserves it!

    1. Thank you! ๐Ÿ™‚

  33. In Casper, Wyoming, there is a local company called Nerd Corporation.

    1. Awesome. Down the street from me there’s a real estate company called Land Trek written in Stark Trek font lol

  34. Thanks for the post and all the photos. WonderCon is on my list. And you have inspired mr to get working on my SXSW post…..nothing like WonderCon but it gave me a taste.

    1. I’ve heard that SXSW is a blast, one of these days I’ll have to check it out

  35. Thanks for posting our TARDIS dresses! HNGs represent!

    1. Absolutely my pleasure! You ladies are so creative and talented!

  36. And then a hero comes along
With the strength to carry on
And you cast your fears aside
And you know you can survive
So when you feel like hope is gone
Look inside you and be strong
And you’ll finally see the truth
That a hero lies in you

  37. Totally awesome post!

  38. True, superheroes and Star Wars are phenomenal . . . but do you like James Bond?

    1. I like what I’ve seen lol. I have not seen all of the James Bond films sad to say. My brother-in-law is obsessed with them so it’s kind of weird that I haven’t seen all of them. I love Goldfinger and Casino Royale.

    1. Thanks ๐Ÿ˜‰

  39. Love it! Still waiting for The Avengers to come out, coming out late in my country. Excited!

    1. It hasn’t come out here yet either, not until May 4th. They’ve started showing the trailers and teasers though and I’m getting so excited!!

  40. hot nerd girl indeed :’)

    1. Why thank ya ๐Ÿ˜‰

  41. Great post. I’m going to Emerald City Comic Con in a couple of weeks and I’m so excited. My husband is going as Punisher and I’m going as Black Cat. Do you ever cosplay at the cons you go to? I see you’re in costume in the blog header but just regular clothing in the post pics, which is why I ask. I wish I had the cash to fly down to CA and hit up SDCC. Oh well, I’m making do with what I’ve got.

    Congrats on FP!

    1. Awesome! ECCC is on my list of cons to go to. I have a friend down here who flies up to Seattle for it every year bc he loves it so much. I have yet to cosplay at a Con, mostly because I like to do stuff and when you dress up you get stuck taking a lot of pictures. BUT I am going to cosplay for one day of San Diego Comic Con and I’m excited and a little nervous about it ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Yeah, not to sound like a creeper or anything, but you have the ideal body for cosplay. You could pull off a lot of different looks which could be really fun. Taking a ton of pictures could be kind of annoying though, so I understand that. It can also get really expensive. Whatever you decide to do good luck and have lots of fun!

  42. Some how I find this post intriguing and caught myself reading the whole thing. Not sure why โ€ฆ
    Dave

    1. LO, well I’ll take that as a compliment ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. It is, nice job covering….

  43. What a great post! I’m glad I found it. I have to say I’m not quite THAT into comic books and sci-fi, but you made me proud to be a girl interested in some of that stuff, who has many episodes of Star Trek and most Star Wars movies memorized, and who too, would be excited to meet Patrick Stewart. (Though I must say, I would probably freak out more if I got to meet William Shatner or George Takei). Thanks for writing this awesome and highly entertaining post!

    1. Patrick Stewart was the name I picked to represent all Star Trek actors, I would totally freak out no matter who it was lol ๐Ÿ˜‰ I did meet Nichele Nichols once, she was so sweet. Grace Lee Whitney was kind of psycho though! Glad you liked the post and for being a fellow Trekkie/Trekker/Fangirl ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. You had the Princess Leia pose down with R2!! You ROCK!!
Just found your blog. My thoughts:
    Hot: Yes.
    Nerd: Sure looks like it.
    Girl: Without question.

Deep as they are, they are my thoughts. ๐Ÿ™‚ Great blog!!

    1. Hahaha, thanks for your thoughts ๐Ÿ˜‰ Glad you liked the blog!

  45. Throrughly enjoyed this post! I live in San Diego and work just a few blocks from SDCC, and although I’ve only been able to attend once, I get to live vicariously through all the attendees and their costumes and fascinations and general sense of wonder.
I was pleased to see the DC We Can Be Heroes campaign was featured prominently as I donated to it earlier this month. It’s a great cause.
Did you get to see/hear any of Wil Wheaton and Felicia Day’s panel?
    Again, great post!

    1. Awesome! My friends and I are doing an HNG pub crawl the Saturday of SDCC, you should join! I only attended WonderCon on Friday due to St. Patty’s Day so I missed Wil and Felicia. Such a bummer as I’m a big fan of them both. I’m sure they’ll have more panels at future Cons. At least I hope they will!

    1. Thank ya ๐Ÿ™‚

Good times….the memories you have created. ๐Ÿ™‚ Looked like tons of fun.

    1. Definitely ๐Ÿ™‚

  47. I’ve only ever heard of it’s glory and witnessed it through pictures…maybe one day…

    1. You should! Cons are so much fun. They are popping up everywhere these days.

  48. Those are some really great shots! great poses!

(I hate to mention it, but you should know that “heart” is not a verb, except as an example of stupidity, as in I โ™ฅ Huckabees. – The โ™ฅ symbol only stands for heart when used as a noun: I left my โ™ฅ in San Fransisco. But the iconic use of โ™ฅ as a verb is, and has always been ‘love’ as in I โ™ฅ NY.)

    1. It’s one of my many Tracyisms ๐Ÿ™‚ Actually I started using the spelled out version bc of WordPress, I wanted to use the heart symbol in lieu of the word “love” but WordPress won’t let you use a heart symbol in a subject title…at least they didn’t used to, I haven’t tried again since then….as a joke I wrote “heart” instead and I thought it was funny so I kept using it. I have many of these Tracyisms, one of the big ones being “anyhooters.” Just one of my many quirks! Glad you liked the pics ๐Ÿ™‚

  49. What? No custom Mandos? Surely there were some of those folks wandering around. Mandalorian Mercs represent!

    1. Sadly, not that I saw. There may have been on Saturday or Sunday though.

  50. Greetings fellow nerd from the UK.
One day the geeks shall inherit the Earth and I feel it’s only logical that on that day you should be crowd Queen.
Top blog and consider yourself followed your majesty.
    x

    1. Excellent! Can’t wait ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. or even crowned Queen….that would make a lot more sense!

  51. Wow! I canโ€™t get over the amazing colours in your photographs!
    Thanks for sharing.

  52. Drool…I can’t wait to get my geek on at C2E2 in Chicago in a few weeks here. I’m going as an old classic you don’t see that often…Madame Masque. I was going to do an anime and go as a Claymore, but can’t really see me staying in white too long…No clue what my hubby will be, he keeps flipping on his ideas.

    1. VERY cool! Face piece and all? I feel you on the white, I’m planning to cosplay at SDCC and it will be all black, just in case! Have fun!

      1. bought a mask the other day, just waiting for my bodysuit to show up.and I am working out like mad to see if I can loose the baby belly….if not, then its girdle time……I refuse to be one of those people hanging all out of their costumes

  53. Cool post! Loving the Gundam and the Power Ranger with a bike helmet (the red guy up there). I got a comic I’ve been working on for a while now. Somehow, writing a script for a comic has been more of a challenge than working on my first novel. Probably just a matter of focus. Once book 1 is done, I’ll be ready to divert all creative powers to Bubblegum-Man. Anyway, great pictures! The Captain America one is what drew me here from Freshly Pressed. That, and Bucky. I love Bucky.

    1. I feel ya, I get massive writer’s block at times. Congrats on your comic and having a novel out, that’s fantastic!

      1. Thanks! Novel’s not out quite yet, but I’m keeping fingers crossed (not literally, it’d be too hard to type).

  54. This is great! An associate shared this with me this morning on Gmail. Impressive.

    1. Thanks! Glad you like it!

  55. Awesome – I totally love this. I am looking forward to NY Comic Con in October.

  60. Reblogged this on Comics A-Go-Go! and commented:
Well, this is an interesting spin on the events at Wonder Con.

Well, we’re still smarting from the fact that we are not only unable to get San Diego Comic-Con badges, we also weren’t able to take time to get to Wonder Con. BAH!!!!!
We gots to get us a Pop Culture fix this summer. Anyone have suggestions? And no, we can’t afford to go to Angoulรชme, although it would be spectacular to go to France, huh? Comiket is also out of the question. So, what else?

    1. Yeah, the badges sold out soooo fast! We were really lucky to get some. If you like Sci-Fi, there’s a Sci-Fi in the Valley Con coming up in May in Los Angeles.

      1. Oh, nice! Rub it in…grrr. Well, we’ll look into the Valley Con although May is tough to get away. Still, we have to do something. Anyway, we’ll watch for your report in July. Hope you have a good time.

        1. Awww, sorry, didn’t mean to rub it in! Hopefully you can go to Valley ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve gone years between Cons and this is my first time getting into SDCC ever so I feel your pain!

  61. Very cool. I ave not been to a Sci-Fi convention in years. The last one to come to Charleston, SC was over 10-years-ago. I need to make a run to Atlanta the next time they have a huge Sci-Fi convention.

    1. You definitely should! They’ve grown leaps and bounds in the last 10 years.

      1. Maybe I’ll dress up my 11-month-old like Yoda or some other little sci-fi dude.

  62. I have to say that for the past few of hours i have been hooked by the impressive articles on this blog. Keep up the wonderful work.

    1. Thank you, what a great compliment! Glad you’ve enjoyed it ๐Ÿ™‚

  63. OMG, that looks amaaaaaazing!!!! sooo fun! great pictures!!!!

    1. Thanks! Cons are a blast! I highly recommend them ๐Ÿ™‚

  64. Good stuff here. Will you be going to the San Diego ComiCon show?

    1. Yup! I’m going on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and doing an HNG pub crawl at the local bars on Saturday evening. Can’t wait!

  65. Oh and yes, also a big fan of the nerd harder shirt.

    1. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m thinking about getting some more of them made. We just made the two, one for me and one for my SIL

  66. […] too!  The post that got her “Freshly Pressed” by WordPress and my attention was this recent one about “WonderCon, 2012″! Share this:FacebookStumbleUponDiggTwitterPrintEmailLike […]

  67. Absolutely love this! I hope to go one year, but I really want to go to SD Comic Con. I can’t wait to see your post when you go. The Doctor was incredible! That is the first time I’ve seen someone look so much like the 10th Doctor (and many have tried). I agree – I think you should make more shirts ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Definitely! I’m going to SDCC for 3 days so I’ll have plenty to share ๐Ÿ™‚ If/when I make some shirts I’ll post about it as well. Thanks for the kind words!

  68. Love, love love this post! I’ve only been to FanExpo (Toronto’s version of comic con) and it was a blast! I have never felt more at home, surrounded by like minded people. And nerds are the nicest people in the world! I hope to someday make it to the California for one! Hubby is working on some stormtrooper armor (at my insisting).
I met Chris Hardwick when he was doing stand up in a small club in Toronto last month, and he is quite possibly my favourite celebrity in existence. He was hilariously funny, I was actually in pain from laughing so hard. And NICE! He talked with everyone and signed autographs after too. Of course, instead of sounding witty and intelligent all I managed to get out was “OMGyou’resoawesome!!”
I will definitely be looking through the rest of your posts, you rock!

    1. How awesome that you actually got to meet him! He booked it off stage at WonderCon so I didn’t get to, but I’m hoping to one of these days. Good luck to your hubby! Making Trooper armor is so beyond my abilities, mad respect to him!

  69. I like your blog! My company is looking for bloggers to host a small giveaway for our greeting cards http://www.nobleworkscards.com and was hoping youโ€™d be interested. Plus, weโ€™d give you free cards for hosting it too. If this seems like something youโ€™d like to do, send me an e-mail at crin@nobleworksinc.com

  70. Had to let you know that I got my total geek on this weekend and had my BIG geek moment. George Perez went geek over my costume at C2E2 this weekend… I still need to get the picks from my friend, but I got him to sign my mask and an action figure

    1. STFU!!! That’s awesome! I want to see a picture when you get them!!

      1. Got pics of the figure, signatures, mask, and one of my costume on my blog http://ghostofawriter.wordpress.com/2012/04/16/my-big-geek-moment-2/
Still need pics of me and George though. I want to see if George posts the pics he took of me…that will be the epitome of all if he does that.
